Visit Volvo Cars in Ghent

On Februari 28th, we visited Volvos production line in Ghent. It was very nice to see how a complete car is build from scratch. The visit started with a presentation about Volvo in the past, the theory behind the production line and Volvo today. The presentation contained also a lot of interesting facts and figures. After the presentation we went to the production plant, we followed the entire process that a car make true the factory till it rolls off the production line.

April first 2014

It’s the first of April, officially the worst day on the Internet all year. A few examples:

  1. This morning, a few news websites published an article about the well discussed pandas in Paridaiza. They said that the two pandas were female and send one of them to there biggest rival ,the zoo of Antwerp’http://www.deredactie.be/cm/vrtnieuws.english/News/140401_LaDH
  2. Vives High School tried to fool the students by publishing a post on their Facebook page. They said that they have had troubles with the software for organizing the exams in june. For apologizing, every student could ask a to let off one exam.

  3. And of course, the car manufacturers couldn’t stay behind. By following Jeremy Clarkson on Twitter I found a resume of all the gags.

I believe that these gags take a part of the marketing strategy, by publishing this kind of things, they keep the public awake especially in the automotive sector. I even believe that we can compare this ‘stunts’ with the extreme concept cars. Everybody knows that it is impossible to build such things in series but the costumer loves it.

About myself and this blog

Hello followers, welcome on my blog. I am Sil Kruissen, a student in Automotive Management at Vives High School in Kortrijk Belgium. In this blog I will try to post at least once a week some comments, retweets and short articles about the automotive sector, logistics, my personal life and my internship @ Vanneste Motors in Kortrijk.

Five million Volvo cars built in Ghent

Last year on 10 January 2013 the fifth million Volvo car was built in Ghent. This proves that Belgium and Volvo are still two things  the crisis has not made too many victims. Of course the crisis from 2008 till now has made to much victims also in the automotive industry. But the Volvo plant in Ghent has done a good job because they assemble the most important Volvos namely the Volvo XC60, V40 and the S60. This also proves that Volvo is an important player on the economic market in Belgium.

I found an article about it: LINK

2015 Volvo XC90 could plug-in with PHEV version

volvo

Now it is time to worry Volvo, that is what I have had in my mind when I read this article. So they will produce the XC90 till 2015. This modal have been already for sale since 2002. I thought it would be nice to create a new modal when it’s already 12 years on the market. But when my sources are reliable there is a chance that it will be a brand new created modal. But the PHEV version will be in the old modal I think. And that is not a very good idea. So I hope that in 2015 we will see a brand new modal of the Volvo XC90.

Logistics of the Jaguar XJ

For my course logistic management I had to write a paper of a logistic process of a car. I chose for the Jaguar XJ because I really like British brands especially Jaguar. Some things were hard to find, the others were more easy. For example this picture helped me a lot

There was also a beautiful video of the production proces of the Jaguar XJ on National Geographic

Saying goodby to an old friend

Today I have sold my car witch one I crashed with two months ago in Kortrijk, I didn’t sell the car immediately because I needed some parts for my new car witch is also a ford. The crashed car’s engine will be used in another one with a broken engine. The rest of the car and lose parts will go to Poland or an other Eastern European country.

I have to say that is hurts a lot to sell it. The ford mondeo was my first ‘expensive’ car. With witch I had a lot of pleasant moments. A number of holidays to France, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany and Austria. I’ve also spent a lot of working hours to customize it to my own preferences. A lot of extra lights in the trunk, a car kit, chip-tuning, some mounts for my mobile phone and iPad… The Mondeo was everything I had and now he’s gone, it feels a little bit strange, like losing a good friend.

Internship

photo

Yesterday my contract for my training has been signed by the supervising teacher, now is everything in arranged to start my internship in the company Vanneste Motors in Kortrijk. This company is a concessionary in Kortrijk of  Opel and Kia. Luckily I have already some experience in this company, I have had my internship last year and my holiday job in Vanneste Motors but now is it the first time that it will be for so long, I will be working there as sales person, receptionist, polyvalent worker… etc. for 3 months. I’m really looking forward to it.

Belgian Motor Show

I also went to the Belgian motor show for two days and the second time I drove to Brussels, the police pulled me over on the E40 with their unmarked police car because my best friend was taking pictures of them. When we were pulled over, they checked our mobile phones, identity & car documents.

I LOVE BELGIUM

This is a picture that I found on the internet of the carBMW Belgian Police

Gaël's Automotive Blog

I went  to the Belgian car show in Brussel, I noticed a lot of people that were interested in the cars but they didn’t have the intention of buying a car. It was like they only wanted to sit in the car of their dreams. So really potential buyers mostly didn’t have the chance to ask for an offer.

This is my first post and I hope you liked it.

Greetings from Belgium
